DOI - The Bureau of Reclamation issued a notice of contractual actions to be taken regarding the delivery of project water for authorized uses. Only individuals that meet the requirements as stated in the Federal Register announcement can comment on these contracts. DOI - The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has extended the public comment period on the proposed “Oil and Gas and Sulfur Operations on the Outer Continental Shelf--Blowout Preventer Systems and Well Control” rule. The rule would consolidate operational requirements that previously were dispersed among many subparts of the offshore oil and gas drilling industry. The comment period will be extended to July 16, 2015. [Wednesday, June 3, 2015 (Volume 80, Issue 106)]

NRC - The National Regulatory Commission has released their “Report on to Congress on Abnormal Occurrences: Fiscal Year 2014” outlining the occurrence of unscheduled incidents or events that are deemed by the NRC to be significant from a public health and safety standpoint. There were 12 events that occurred at State-licensed facilities and one at an NRC-licensed facility in 2014. [Friday, June 5, 2015 (Volume 80, Issue 108)]

NSF - The National Science Board’s Committee on Strategy and Budget is holding a teleconference call on Thursday June 11, 5-6pm. The Committee will be discussing the FY2016 budget developments. DOI- The Department of the Interior (DOI) is inviting nominations for members of the Advisory Committee on Climate Change and the Natural Resource Science Committee. The committee focuses on advising the U.S. Geological Survey National Climate Change and Wildlife Center and the DOI Climate Science Centers. More information about the committee can be found here. NSF - There is an open Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering on June 24, 2015 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and June 25, 2015 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The committee will be discussing women in STEM as well as the Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners that have been Underrepresented for Diversity in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) program. The meeting will be in National Science Foundation (NSF), 4201 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22230. [Tuesday, June 9, 2015 (Volume 80, Number 110)]

DOE - On July 7 8:30am to 5pm and July 8 from 8am to noon the Department of Energy (DOE) basic science advisory committee will meet to discuss advancements from various aspects of DOE research. The materials, chemical, bio, and geo sciences strategic research plans will be discussed. There will also be and update on the progress of the advanced photon source project. DOI - The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement proposes to incorporate the 7th edition of the American Petroleum Institute Specification 2C, “Offshore Pedestal-Mounted Cranes,” in order to improve the safety of cranes mounted on fixed platforms that are installed on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). Comments on this proposal must be submitted by July 15, 2015. [Monday, June 15, 2015 (Volume 80, Number 114)]

EPA - the Environmental Protection Agency released 2015 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permits for stormwater discharges from industrial activity, also referred to as Multi-Sector General Permits (MSGP). These are regionally administered, five-year permits; judicial review may be requested by filing a petition for review in the United States Court of Appeals within 120 days after the permit is issued [Tuesday, June 16, 2015 (Volume 80, Number 115)]

DOI - the Bureau of Land Management released a Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement on the use of three herbicides on public lands in 17 states. This draft would add the three herbicides (aminopyralid, fluroxypyr, and rimsulfuron) to the BLM’s list of approved herbicides for controlling weeds and invasive species. The draft is available at BLM’s website; comments should be submitted within 45 days following the date the Environmental Protection Agency publishes its Notice of Availability in the Federal Register. DOT - The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) posted an advisory bulletin on June 23 to remind owners and operators of gas and hazardous liquid pipelines of the potential for damage to facilities in the wake of hurricanes. The advisory reminds owners to check their facilities before and after storms and to report any problems immediately to PHMSA. [Tuesday, June 23, 2015 (Volume 80, Issue 120)]

DOE - The Energy Information Agency (EIA) has extended the comment period on a rule regarding spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste to August 25, 2015. EIA is requesting comment on whether the collection of information on spent nuclear fuel disposal fees are necessary, whether the agency’s estimates of these fees are accurate, where the agency needs to improve the quality, utility, and clarity of the information collected, and ways the agency can minimize the burden of the collection on respondents. DOD - The Army Corps of Engineers, with the Environmental Protection Agency, announced the completion of its final “Waters of the U.S.” rule, to become fully implemented on August 28, 2015. On July 13, the rule will be considered for judicial review. The rule would expand the number of water bodies in the U.S. that are considered under the Clean Water Act. [Monday, June 29, 2015 (Volume 80, Issue 124)]

DOI - The United States Geological Survey (USGS) renewed the Charter for the Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science for an additional two-year period. The Committee advises the Secretary of the Interior on the USGS’s federal, state, and local climate science research and programs, and includes members from nongovernmental organizations, private sector entities, and academic institutions.
