On April 23, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) released a report on preliminary models of earthquakes triggered by human activity, or induced seismicity, to be added into U.S. hazard modeling. Increasing earthquake activity in the central and eastern U.S. has been linked to industrial operations and disposal of wastewater through deep well injection.

These preliminary models aim to predict intensity and quantity of earthquakes for the U.S. in the next year and will be refined and added into a final hazard model expected at the end of this year.
