Job Summary

Major Duties

  • Serves as the Forest's Inventory and Monitoring (IM) Coordinator.
  • Serves as principal advisor for the inventory and monitoring of natural resources and is responsible for program development and implementation.
  • Collects, interprets and analyzes natural resources data, manages the IM budget and works with resource specialists to develop and implement protocols for Forest Plan monitoring, review and analysis.
  • Leads the development of a forest plan monitoring guide and protocol development.
  • Works with the forest units and oversee the monitoring implementation program, subsequent to protocol development.
  • Assists with the Forest to meet the 2012 Planning Rule by working with the Regional Office to develop a broad scale monitoring strategy.

Basic Requirement: Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess specialized experience in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Participates in strategic planning efforts (e.g. project interdisciplinary teams, environmental analysis documentation, or Land Management Plan to ensure conformance to National Environmental Protection Act and Endangered Species Act requirements) and directs implementation activities within the Resource Management Program; periodically revises the natural resource program operations for consistency with strategies and program emphasis; evaluates and synthesizes current studies, reports and information related to program activities and distributes information for the use of subordinates; writes monitoring protocols; reviews and provides advice on research proposals, field investigations, inventory and monitoring (IM) plans, scientific reports and publications to address natural resource management needs; prepares and reviews environmental analysis documents, management plans and other reports as needed. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Pay Range

$85,799.00 - $111,543.00
