This position is in Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Office of Pesticide Programs,Biological and Economic Analysis Division, Microbiology Laboratory Branch. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About OCSPP:OCSPP
Major Duties
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Conduct short and long-term studies for evaluating the efficacy of antimicrobial pesticides (disinfectants, tuberculocides etc.) independently or in a small team environment.
- Prepare, maintain, and track cultures of biosafety level I and II bacteria and viruses for long-term storage, testing, and research studies.
- Conduct routine quality control activities such as calibration of equipment, sterility checks of media and reagents, etc. following Good Laboratory Practice and ISO 17025 standards.
- Report outcomes from research studies, quality control activities, and performance testing.
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level defined asanalyzing scientific data in a laboratory setting - OR 1 full year of graduate level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition) degree in the academic discipline as described below.To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as analyzing scientific data in a laboratory setting; andassisting inresearch studies - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described above.Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:1)Ability to conduct research on microbiological efficacy test methods for antimicrobial pesticides; 2)Ability to analyze and record laboratory data; 3)Skill in the preparationof microbiological cultures; 4)Skill in operating standard biological and/or microbiological laboratory equipment; 5)Ability to learnGood Laboratory Practice and ISO 17025 standards; 6) Skill in written communication; and 7) Skill in oral communication.

Pay Range
$47,016.00 - $74,759.00
