Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

Analyze data and prepare qualitative and quantitative estimates of health effects from various chemical substances and other environmental contaminants (i.e., microbiologicals) to produce scientifically defensible health assessment documents that reflect current scientific principles and risk assessment methodologies.

Advise and provide technical assistance to management and other stakeholders on scientific issues related to their assigned assessments.

Work individually or participate on teams/workgroups with other scientists in OW and across the EPA to identify and resolve scientific issues.

Serve as a project officer or work assignment manager for scientific support work performed under contract or assistance agreements.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as experience analyzing and interpreting scientific data in the identification of health effects from various chemicals and other environmental contaminants; experience explaining and communicating technical and/or scientific information to a variety of audiences; - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below; - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, techniques, and practices in the field of biology and related disciplines.

Ability to analyze large amounts of complex scientific data, skill in interpreting scientific data to prepare qualitative and quantitative estimates of possible outcomes.

Skill in identifying problems; determining accuracy and relevance of information; and using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders to resolve programmatic issues.

Ability to develop networks and build alliances; collaborate across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.

Knowledge of policies and procedures for managing extramural work.

Skill in monitoring project activity progress and completion, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining appropriate documentation of performance.

Pay Range

$69,581.00 - $90,461.00
