Job Summary
Serves as a staff biologist performing natural resources management technical support work, providing information and guidance in support of natural resources planning and program execution. Provides guidance to Operations Project Managers and their staffs concerning solutions to a variety of natural resources and park management problems associated with fish and wildlife biology, water quality, forestry, soil conservation, pest control, and other applied natural sciences.
Major Duties
- Provide assistance to field managers in meeting performance measures associated with the Operations and Maintenance Budget goals to fully support Recovery Plans for Federally listed species.
- Evaluate research findings for application to field activities, particularly in conserving and protecting forest, fish, and wildlife resources.
- Prepare responses to Congressional inquiries concerning sensitive resource management issues or Corps activities affecting the economic stability of the region.
- Process land use requests, including concessionaire, potential applicant, and others to ensure compatibility with district objectives, public interest, and resource protection.
- Conduct studies and develop data in support of planning for and management of natural resources.
- Review, evaluate and make recommendations on the technical aspects of management plans submitted by other agencies on lands and waters that are under lease, license, or other types of outgrants.
- Review and make recommendations on Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and other documents pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act.
- Prepare and provide quality assurance for project Master Plan updates and supplements, and provides oversight of Shoreline Management Program (SMP) and SMP updates.
- Develop and/or coordinate the development of comprehensive Operational Management Plans for fish and wildlife resources and for sustained yield forest management planning at each multipurpose project.
- Provide technical support for Natural Resources compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Basic Requirement for Biologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating importance of specific habitats for biological resources and relating changes caused by construction activities to potential environmental and biological impacts; exchanging technical biology information via letters, reports and meetings within and outside the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Pay Range
$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
