Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary GS-05: $37,803 (Step 01) to $49,140 (Step 10); Salary GS-07: $46,827 (Step 01) to $60,876 (Step 10);NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There are three vacancies; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

Duties:

As a Biologist within Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

-Perform basic trainee assignments in collecting basic data from field investigations and making observations in which biological conditions are readily identifiable.

-Report observations in field notes for use of higher grade-level employees.

-Search published technical sources for information on designated topics and prepares summaries for reference by others in the unit.

-Assist biologists of higher grade in studying and preparing sections of reports on biological science investigations i.e., ecology, fishery, wildlife, and/or habitat conditions.

-Prepare samples and performs data analysis in an office or laboratory and drafts assigned portions of reports.

-Prepare graphs and charts.

-Prepare correspondence pertaining to technical aspects of the work.

-Participate in minor phases of planning, organizing, and implementing of biological investigations that affect ecology, wildlife, fishery, and/or habitat conditions.

-Prepare reports on progress and result of studies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

-The field work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.

-Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work.

Qualifications

In

addition to the basic education requirements, you may qualify with1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

For GS-05: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

For GS-07: One year of appropriate professional experience in biology that is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service.

Examples of specialized experience for GS-05 level work may include:Examples of GS-5 level experience could include: making laboratory determinations of water quality parameters on biological samples; applying biological concepts and basic principles in related natural science fields; collecting basic field investigation data; preparing and operating equipment that collects samples and biologic data; preparing samples; and analyzing, compiling and computing biological data. The tasks performed at this level were routine and usually entailed readily identifiable phenomena and environmental conditions; and the work was closely controlled and assigned with clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use.

**Selective Factor**

To be basically qualified for this position, applicants must meet the OPM qualification standard (above) and the following selective factor(s): Currently authorized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to independently conduct activities for the Pacific pocket mouse (Perogntahus longimembris pacificus).

Pay Range

$37,803.00 - $60,876.00
