Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $52,905 (Step 01) to $68,777 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Wetland & Aquatic Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Plan and conduct studies and investigations concerning biological, chemical, and physical processes that affect biology resources.
  • Devise strategies and plans to overcome significant resource problems related to ecology, fishery, and/or wildlife habitat restoration.
  • Analyze data, perform scientific tests, and conduct studies on the impact of existing or proposed management or public practices on biology resources.
  • Analyze data and conduct studies of biological species populations.
  • Develop plans for biology projects.

Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The work requires moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property with which entrusted.

BASICEDUCATIONREQUIREMENT:

Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels.

A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. *OR* B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.(CLICKHEREFOR DETAILS ON HOW TO COMBINE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

If you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below:

In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.Examples of GS-07 level work may include: 1) assisting with planning, organizing, and implementing scientific investigations; 2) performing data analyses on portions of larger scientific investigations; 3) and receiving training in gathering, organizing, and interpreting biological, ecological, pathological, public use, or other information pertinent to scientific studies and/or scientific investigations. For examples 1-3, the work involved following established methods and procedures, or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying basic principles and procedures; solving minor problems and making routine decisions.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$52,905.00 - $68,777.00
