Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? The duty station of this position may remain that of the selectee or may be any USGS location on the West Coast that is agreed upon by the selecting official and the selectee. If the agreed upon location results in the relocation of the selectee, the travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are NOT authorized.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

-Conduct surveys using water quality equipment and small unmanned aircraft systems such as drones.

-Conducts field surveys measuring accretion rates.

-Develop and maintain computer databases; and gathers, analyzes, tabulates and summarizes scientific, programmatic, and/or budgetary data.

- Preparation of comprehensive reports on study findings and recommendations.

- Preparation of reports that include recommendations for major changes, elimination, or improvement of operations and program plans.

- Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

- Presents findings at scientific conferences.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; and bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.

Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work.

The work requires experience flying resource management small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) missions.

Qualifications

For information on basic qualifications, which includes information on whether you may substitute education for specialized experience, please click on the following: https://www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/biologist-gs-0401.Inaddition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples include:

One year of specialized experience at or equal to the next lower grade level.

Examples of experience at the GS-09 level work may include: 1) participation in the planning and execution of biological studies with limited number of variables; 2) performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; 3) conducting biological studies using established fact finding procedures. For examples 1-3, assignments were made with the objectives, priorities, and deadlines defined. The work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices. Controversial use of approaches or modifications of standard procedures were typically discussed with a designated person before being carried out.

SELECTIVE FACTOR:

This position requires: Possession of Part 107 Remote Pilot license certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration to operate unmanned aircraft systems. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$62,236.00 - $80,912.00
