Job Summary
This position will be located in the Biospecimen Sciences Group, CSD, MML, NIST in Charleston, SC. Are you ready to explore your future with NIST? Major Duties
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Provide technical support to the NIST Biorepository including field sampling and processing of marine animal tissues and other specimens for chemical contaminants and health related studies
- Organizing/archiving scientific collections
- Maintaining databases of specimen information
- Protocol development for contamination free collection/processing of specimens under clean room conditions
- Production of frozen reference materials (RM/SRMs) using specialized cryogenic equipment
- Conduct analysis of archived specimens to determine pre-analytical variables of sample processing to determine quality of sample for downstream analysis - including ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS and NMR
Qualifications
Basic Requirements Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. IN ADDITION: To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level (or ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with sample collection and processing of biospecimens; conducting analytical techniques for chemical contaminants analysis; and maintaining specimen tracking database system

Master’s or equivalent graduate degree

Pay Range
$64,832.00 - $101,023.00
