Job Summary

The positions are located in Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Office of Pesticide Programs, Health Effects Division, multiple branches. The position may be located in Arlington, VA or Durham, NC. The duty location will be determined after a selection has been made for this position. If selected, you must work at one of the locations stated in this announcement.Your salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected and the duty location of the position.

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

- Examine and evaluate scientific data and/or pesticide-based studies and all collateral information to produce written reviews consistent with project-specific statutory deadlines under the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIRFA); prepare reports and decision documents to support regulatory decisions based on science reviews;

- Write detailed scientific evaluations related to impacts of pesticide usage, which include protocols for product performance testing and product labeling guidelines;

- Conduct exposure analysis to support the pesticide risk assessment and risk management decisions under PRIA and FIFRA. Provide recommendations to resolve problems which may have significant impact on private industries;

- Research, interpret, analyze and apply federal laws and agency regulations which form the regulatory framework for pesticide usage.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined asconducting statistical/scientific evaluations of laboratory research data; or applying scientific concepts in analyzing, compiling or computing data as it relates to chemicals;-OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree;-OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below;-OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree directly related to the positions being advertised.

Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill in using standard data gathering and analysis techniques to support the development of pesticide information; 2) Skill in oral communication; 3) Knowledge of the uses and benefits of a variety of pesticides; 4) Skill in written communication; 5) Skill in reviewing and analyzing technical documentation; 6) Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team; 7)Knowledge of laws and regulations related to pesticide registration.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$54,976.00 - $93,638.00
