Job Summary

You will function as a Cartographer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, Operations Division, located in Louisville, Kentucky.

Major Duties

  • Develops and collects GIS data by performing field work, acquiring new geospatial data and refining existing data.
  • Plans, coordinates, develops and maintains complex Digital Elevation Models (DEM) in areas of remote sensing from ground surveys, hydrographic surveys, photogrammetric surveys, and existing maps covering a multi-state geographic area.
  • Serves as a senior level cartographer providing assistance, training, and guidance to less experienced cartographers and/or cartographic technicians.
  • Continuously updates both the format and datasets of eHydro and Dredge Quality Management (DQM) to stay current with technology and changes to channel conditions.
  • The incumbent must utilize some or all of the following software packages including ArcGIS, Microstation, Corpscon, Hypack, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and Google Earth Pro.
  • Serves as a senior level cartographer providing professional knowledge base of cartography and photogrammetry including the mathematical, geographic, and scientific basis.
  • Serves as a senior level cartographer providing professional knowledge basis for design, evaluation, and construction of maps, charts, and digital Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirement: A. Degree: Cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites);

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement above, you must all meet the specialized experience below: To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, you must have:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes

OR

B. Education: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement;

OR

C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100 percent to qualify for this position. (To compute the percentage, divide you total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify). To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07);

OR

B. Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree;

OR

C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100 percent to qualify for this position. (To compute the percentage, divide you total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify). To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes

OR

B. Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;

OR

C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100 percent to qualify for this position. (To compute the percentage, divide you total months of qualifying experience by 12. Pay Range

$43,251.00 - $83,210.00
