These positions are located in Assateague Island National Seashore, in the Resource Management Division.The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Assateague Island National Seashore is Jun-Dec, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Major Duties
- Work in the Assateague Island National Seashore GIS Lab to collect field data, manipulate geospatial data using ESRI ArcGIS, and create necessary metadata.
- Create web cartographic products for park projects and to implement PDF-based mobile mapping for park staff at Assateague Island National Seashore.
- Assateague Island National Seashore is a dynamic barrier island that changes daily. Datasets reflecting island changes are also updated regularly and those changes need to be available to cooperators, researchers, and presented to the public.
- Use a variety of hardware (resource/survey GPS, digital level, computers, printers) to obtain data and utilize available NPS outlets to make it available.
Area Information: Assateague Island National Seashore is located on the Atlantic coast of Maryland and Virginia, approximately 130 miles east of Washington, DC. The area is largely rural, with numerous small towns and the seaside resorts of Ocean City, MD and Chincoteague, VA nearby. Complete shopping and medical services are available, as are public and private schools. The small city of Salisbury, MD is about 30 miles west of the headquarters area and has shopping centers, a university and a large hospital. Summers are hot and humid, with high temperatures commonly in the 90's. Winters are mild with little snow and daytime temperatures usually above freezing.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/30/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing tasks in cartography or in a related field such as photogrammetry or geodesy. This experience includes activities such as: field data collection, compilation, editing and production (manual or digital, manual and/or color), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full graduate year of education (18 semester hours or whatever number your school uses to represent one graduate academic year) concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position such as cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, etc.. You must include transcripts.
