Job Summary
This position is located in the Northeast Regional Office, at the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation in Boston, MA or Richmond, VA. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Northeast Regional Office is May-October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: 5/24/2020. Pay Rate (Hourly) Richmond, VA: $21.44 per hour Boston, MA: $23.08 per hour
Major Duties
As a Cartographic Technician GS-1371-07, you will:
- Serve as an important team member working to accomplish the annual work plan of the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation.
- Supervised by experienced staff, the incumbent will help to support the Olmsted Center's Landscape Preservation Planning and the Landscape Preservation Maintenance teams.
- Will provide national parks with technical services, creating mapping and cartographic products documenting park cultural landscapes. The timely provision of these services is fundamental to the completion of cultural landscapes inventory records and cultural landscape report, as well as in providing timely technical assistance and responding to resource emergencies.
- Major duties include leading teams conducting field surveys, resource inventories and preparing cartographic products for inclusion in planning projects.
- Work involves creating accurate maps to scale from data collected during field work and from pre-existing data sets.
- Responsibilities include reviewing the work of others, and providing one-on-one guidance and training.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing tasks in cartography or in a related field such as photogrammetry or geodesy. This experience includes activities such as: field data collection, compilation, editing and production (manual or digital, manual and/or color), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full graduate year of education (18 semester hours or whatever number your school uses to represent one graduate academic year) concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position such as cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, etc.. You must include transcripts.

$21.44 - $23.08
