Job Summary
This position provides technical assistance to professional and technical personnel by performing tasks related to the scribing and drafting of maps and is located on the Chugach National Forest in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months. This appointment may be extended up to four (4) years. Major Duties
- Prepare maps, charts, and drawings in connection with cartographic and other research-supported duties.
- Make computations, coordinate projections and other surveying and mathematical theories to compute horizontal positions from azimuth and grid distance.
- Use automated equipment and computer software in the production of maps and charts.
- Perform cartographic drafting and manual compilation assignments, ranging from moderate to difficult, to complex.
- Plot soundings, elevations, base lines, ranges, land sub-divisions, topographic detail, etc., from various sources.
- Perform difficult final inking and drafting of a variety of maps and charts involving all but the most difficult and complex fine-line drafting.

Specialized Experience Requirement: For GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level in the federal government or equivalent. Examples of specialized experience are defined as: Receives data and constructs new or revised maps; creates charts, and other cartographic products such as a plat or a site survey, utilizing computerized map and chart making software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D and or Trimble Business Center; analyzes and interprets data for appropriateness and accuracy for use in analysis and modeling for various land management uses. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$46,859.00 - $46,859.00
