Job Summary

The National Park Service seeks an engineer to join a fast paced team working with some of the nation's treasured assets- roads, trails, buildings and utilities in Mount Rainier National Park. With over 1.5M visitors a year, this work has a big impact. You will work with the park's architect, landscape architect, project managers, resource specialists and compliance team to complete projects in a demanding landscape, and protect resources to ensure continued public access for future generations.

Major Duties

  • Provide civil engineering expertise to perform or direct design, construction, operations and maintenance of park facilities.
  • Manage construction projects for the repair, rehabilitation and construction of park facilities.
  • Participate in meetings to resolve issues involving high profile planning and design projects.
  • Use project management software to collect, analyze, calculate, and report project data.
  • Serve as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the management of design and construction contracts.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this Civil Engineer, GS-0810-12, you must meet BOTH the Basic Educational Requirement (One of the Options) *AND* meet the Additional Qualification Requirement stated below. BASIC Education Requirement for the 0810 Series: Option A: You have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum is in a school of engineering with at least one engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

*OR*

Option B: You have successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum included differential and integral calculus. The curriculum also included courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the 7 following areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electric fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. *OR*

Option C: You do not have a Bachelor's degree in professional engineering, however, you have completed 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences, and in engineering that included the courses specified in B above. The courses were fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering program. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

*OR*

Option D: You have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field such as engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND you have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. This must include either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.*OR*Option E: You have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Note: You must submit documentation of having passed the examination.

*OR*

Option F: You are currently registered as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. This registration must have been obtained by written test OR be in general engineering or a directly related engineering field and was gained by State grandfather or eminence provisions NOTE: You must submit copies of your current registration. **AND** ADDITIONAL Qualification Requirement: You must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, performing professional civil engineering work. This experience includes: (1) using professional engineering and architectural theory and methods to develop or review the design of structures, facilities, systems or sites for construction, renovation or restoration; (2) conducting studies and developing plans, specifications, and construction requirements such as schedules, costs, labor, and materials; (3) overseeing or supervising construction, renovation or restoration projects for structures, facilities or sites; and (4) tracking progress and status of projects and contractual change orders using various reporting mechanisms. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Pay Range

$84,045.00 - $109,264.00
