Job Summary

You will serve as a CIVIL ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL) in the Explosion Effects & Consequences Division of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING AND EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE CENTER. This position is responsible for mananging the consequences resulting from accidental explosions associated with ordance handling and storage facilities.

Major Duties

  • You will provide support to higher authorities in the planning and coordination of blast effects technical efforts.
  • You will solve multidisciplinary engineering problems where precedent data, criteria, methods, or techniques are often inadequate or nonexistent.
  • You will manage annual budgets and financial viability of assigned projects.
  • You will maintain liaison and proactive communication with customers and field Commands to identify future technical requirements in supporting structural infrastructure.
  • You will provide subject matter expertise and consultation to others on protective construction matters such as hardening dilemma, structural problems, and life-cycle facilities issues.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must currently be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A VALID COPY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER LICENSE WITH YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSTION In addition to the selective placement factor for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Advising others on protective construction designs for resisting explosion effects;

2) Applying advanced theories, concepts, and principles of professional civil/structural engineering (i.e., advanced structural dynamics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical vibrations, fatigue analysis, correlation and spectral analysis, material properties, advanced concrete design, and high-fidelity physics-based modeling) to facilities engineering projects;

3) Testing and analyzing blast effects on ordnance storage and handling facilities;

4) Utilizing budgeting, planning, and project management skills to coordinate work and lead teams for achieving project goals; and

5) Working with structural mechanics and structural engineering technology to analyze and evaluate engineering systems. NOTE: This experience must be clearly supported in your resume. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:

Pay Range

$100,820.00 - $131,064.00
