Job Summary
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) plays a key role in protecting American lives and property. The provision of weather, water, climate, & environmental information supports the Nations's social and economic development. The Alaska Region conducts the technical and service programs and the administrative support functions in accordance with NOAA and NWS policies.
Major Duties
The NWS, Director, Alaska Region has full responsibility for the discharge of the following essential organizational functions for the NWS in the Alaska Region field offices and in the region headquarters. The Director, will be responsible for ensuring an effective severe weather and flood warning system to minimize loss of life and property, ensuring the provision of effective weather services to enhance the efficiency of the activities and operations to the public, public safety organizations, the media, and other users of public weather services, ensuring the provision of effective weather services through approved media to enhance the efficiency of various public and private interests located within the region, including those charged with responsibility for aviation operations, agriculture, air pollution control, forestry management, marine activities, etc, ensuring the timely and accuate weather observations and responsive communications systems as well as the timely disseminatin of weather forecasts and warnings to the public, the media and other user groups. The Director will ensure the effective transition of NWS services and implementation of new systems in accordance with NWS modernization and associated restructuring plans. The Director for the Alaska Region is responsible for carrying out the mission of the organization in the most cost effective manner, ensuring that the funds are effectively utilized and controlled within the allocated budget of the Region and within national NWS guidelines.

Qualifications

These qualifications would typically be acquired through education, experience, and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in managing a comprehensive business program in a complex organization. An individual's total experience and education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. NOTE: Responses to ECQs must not exceed 10 pages typed in 12-point font, or the application will be disqualified.Professional/Technical Core Qualifications (PTQs):PTQ 1 - Substantial senior level experience in managing a large geographically dispersed science, service, and research-based organization.
PTQ 2 - Demonstrted experience in administrative and technical program management and public policy development; in particular, those areas related to strategic and administrative progams and services using cost, schedule, and performance.
PTQ 3 - Demonstrted ability and extensive knowledge in leading and applying management techniques and doctrines in planning, developing, integrating, and directing a variety of management support and service programs.

Pay Range
$131,239.00 - $197,300.00
