Job Summary

This position is located in the District Office of the Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction, Office of Environmental Health and Engineering in the Tempe, AZ and Lakeside, AZ locations. The incumbent provides engineering consulting, design, project management, and related technical services to the tribes through execution of PL86-121 sanitation facilities construction projects. This position works under the supervision of the District Engineer.

Major Duties

  • Provides engineering design, engineering and construction guidance, and technical assistance to field engineers stationed in the field offices of the district and in the district office, including direction with respect to project planning, scheduling, design, construction management, and operation and maintenance of facilities.
  • Assists the field staff with the preparation of applications and supporting technical documentation in support of proposed planning and construction projects for various funding mechanisms.
  • Reviews project engineers' designs, and planning and construction documents prepared by field staff, including engineering reports, environmental assessments, feasibility studies, construction specifications and drawings.
  • Assists the district and field engineers with appropriate procurement procedures for federal procurement, tribal procurement, tribal force account, or government force account methods for sanitation facilities construction.
  • Supervises field engineers, technicians, and clerical staff in either the district or field offices as assigned by the district engineer. Coordinates work for and oversees quality and quantity of work produced by district draftsman or draftsmen under contract.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education and/or Experience In order to qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following Basic Requirements for professional engineering positions. Education: Completion of a degree in professional engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Completion of a degree in professional engineering that includes differential and integral calculus and courses in at least 5 of the following 7 areas: (1) statistics, dynamics; (2) strength of materials; (3) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (4) thermodynamics; (5) electrical fields and circuits; (6) nature and properties of materials; (7) any other comparable area of engineering science or physics. OR Completion of a degree in professional engineering from a foreign institution that has been accepted as equivalent to a conventional U.S. higher education program. OR Combination of Education and Experience Posses a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering as demonstrated by my current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. OR Possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering as demonstrated by passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination or the written test required for professional registration; and, completion of a bachelor`s degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college/university that included at least 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. OR Posses a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering which includes at least 60 semester/90 quarter hours in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included differential and integral calculus. All courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. OR Posses a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree in engineering that includes a bachelor`s degree in a related curriculum (engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), AND at least (1) year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. In addition to the Basic Requirement, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. LICENSURE REQUIREMENT: License or Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. In addition to the Basic and Licensure Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, GS-0819-12: Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Engineering design including but not limited to sewage collection and treatment facilities, lagoons, water well and pump house systems, booster systems, water treatment facilities, water storage and distribution systems, and solid waste collection and disposal facilities. Reviewing project engineers' designs, preparing engineering reports, completing environmental assessments and feasibility studies, construction specifications and drawings. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $103,328.00
