Major Duties
This position is for an Environmental Engineer and is located in the Safety Service of the RHJ VA Medical Center. The position reports to and works under the supervision of the Chief of Safety Service. Environmental engineering involves the application of engineering and science theories, principles, and practical concepts to understand and solve environmental problems. The environmental engineer assists VA with assuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulation governing air emissions, fuel and oil storage, hazardous waste, solid waste, drinking water quality and wastewater discharge, among other areas. The environmental engineer supports the further development and implementation of VA's Green Environmental Management System (GEMS), performs environmental reviews for construction projects, and also
provides consultative support in the implementation of environmental sustainability programs.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Services as a member of the VAMC GEMS Committee responsible for assisting in the coordination, development and implementation of the VA GEMS program.
- Ensures that the GEMS results in findings and conclusions that lead to continual improvement of environmental programs.
- Provides leadership and direction to management and professional and technical personnel regarding the development and implementation of the facility GEMS program.
- The incumbent plans, organizes, implements, oversees and provides technical assistance for environmental compliance issues.
- Conducts pollution surveys involving field studies and laboratory analysis to identify types and amount of effluent or emissions being discharged.
- The incumbent provides technical expertise for the design, modification, operation and maintenance of VA Medical Center facilities and infrastructure to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm; Occasional overtime/shift/weekend/holiday work required.

OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a master's degree. Pay Range
$64,009.00 - $83,210.00
