Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Use analytical methods and techniques to a wide range of scientific, legal, environmental protection, and/or environmental management issues.
  • Provide advice and assistance to state, local and/or tribal governments on matters relating to the development, execution and monitoring of adequate environmental protection/scientific policies, plans and programs.
  • Perform work as a technical specialist conducting, inspections, investigating cases of violation and/or preparing, enforcement actions.
  • Review and implement environmental standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations.
  • Participate in the negotiation functions with well owners/operators and other interested parties to resolve issues related to permit requirements, and assists in providing technical support to defend technical and legal challenges to permits.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as assisting in investigation and developing underground injection enforcement and compliance activities; assisting in providing technical support to defend technical and legal challenges to permits - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of general engineering and/or scientific principles, concepts and methods to perform assignments.

Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct field sampling and/or inspections/audits.

Skill in developing, analyzing data, and preparing reports.

Ability to investigate routine cases and prepares compliance reports.

Skill in written communication.

Knowledge of applicable environmental statues and regulations.

Ability to develop technical analysis.

Ability to prepare permits.

Skill in oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$58,672.00 - $76,274.00
