Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Commerce, Office of the Secretary, Washington, District of Columbia. The primary purpose of this position is managing sustainability, energy, and environmental programs, including appropriate supporting service organizations.

Major Duties

  • Preparing written evaluations or assignments of all agency program involvements in order to determine the significance of their environmental impacts.
  • Researching and applying principles from a wide variety of scientific, economic and engineering disciplines to make substantive findings.
  • Collaborating with agency planning staff for the purpose of assisting them to incorporate sustainability, energy, and environmental considerations and factors into the planning process.
  • Coordinating the agency's sustainability, energy, and environmental program with other offices.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below. Minimum Qualifications:

ZA-III: You qualify for the Environmental Protection Specialist, ZA-0028-03 position grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience in the Federal service OR equivalent public or private sector experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-09 level or equivalent pay band performing the following duties: Sustainability, energy, and environmental awareness campaigns and events; Managing reuse and recycling programs to increase awareness and training; AND Managing databases to analyze sustainability, energy, and environmental data and metrics. OR Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$69,581.00 - $108,422.00
