Major Duties
Conducts research and gathers and maintains environmental data for mitigation of surface and subsurface impacts; coordinates and participates in inspections; inspects construction sites for surrounding ecosystem and habitat impacts; and develops, recommends and implements plans to accomplish program surface protection goals.
Serves as the principal environmental advisor and evaluator to the Field or District Office interdisciplinary staff on programmatic, technical and regulatory actions when dealing with issues concerning environmental reclamation, remediation and/or environmental protection.
Provides technical advice and assistance to managers, conducting studies and surveys to identify problems, recommends modifications to operations and develops and maintains environmental documentation. Conducts research and gathers and maintains environmental data relating to mitigation of surface impacts and restoration of surface disturbance to a productive condition; considers overall scope of the project and relationship to other resources and land uses.
Coordinates and consults with local Tribal Councils, State or Federal Agencies, and special interest groups; and meets with operators to discuss mitigation measures.
Physical Demands: The individual works in an office setting however, considerable field work is needed in order to gather data and perform on site evaluations. May be required to walk or ride vehicles over rough terrain, perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or lifting. Work may also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment and samples.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an office setting. However when necessary to complete the work, there may be considerable outdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure requires some discomfort in extremes or temperature or inclement weather. The incumbent may be subjected to hostile wildlife, chemical, and physical hazards.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.To Qualify for GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level inFederal service.At this level, recurring assignments that are independently performed are more difficult & complex than those performed at the lower grade level.Examples of specialized experience include: exercising judgment and a broad perspective in applying a thorough knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices relating to environmental protection programs; completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR completed two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or LL.B or J.D, if related; OR have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
To Qualify for GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level inFederal service. Examples of specialized experience includes: work involving use of policies, organizational processes, operations, work practices, and environmental parameters of regulated industries and Federal agencies, States, or other entities sufficient to obtain information, evaluate compliance, and recommend necessary changes to control measures and best management practices; OR completed the requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR an equivalent combination of experience and education as described above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range
$52,905.00 - $83,210.00
