Job Summary

You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the of NAVHOSP GTMO, Cuba. The purpose of this position is to manage the entire environmental protection program, advising on and coordinating all matters related to hazardous waste management. Free utilities, and Free housing provided. 10% Foreign Post Differential per State Department guidance.

Major Duties

  • You will analyze and audit environmental aspects and report findings to higher authority.
  • You will use knowledge gained in 40 HR HAZWOPER Certification course or experience to manage hazardous material program.
  • You will have experience or education in chemistry, biology, or medical science to maintain and provide updates on environmental management system web site (EMS Web).
  • You will evaluate facilities used for operating or storing hazardous materials and waste to verify compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • You will safely handle biological waste and hazardous materials per OSHA guidelines.
  • You will manage environmental information or information systems to compile and create reports.
  • You will advise personnel (e.g., higher-graded specialists, supervisors, operating officials) on environmental compliance and pollution prevention programs.
  • You will conduct formal and informal inspections or investigations of incidents or ongoing operations for compliance with hazardous material, hazardous waste management, and disposal standards.
  • You will develop, implement and administer the hospital?s environmental programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Managing the environmental program at the facility to implement environmental concepts, theories, practices and techniques applicable to environmental protection;

2) Applying executive orders, rules and regulations of various federal regulatory agencies concerning the environment and to identify required compliance actions;

3) Serving as environmental/hazardous waste representative with technical, analytical and administrative responsibility to ensure management, storage and disposal of hazardous waste material is accomplished in an environmentally accepted and regulatory compliant manner; 4) Reviewing engineering designs and assessing environmental hazards to determine environmental impact on proposed projects; AND

5) Preparing hazardous waste and environmental quality reports and compliance documentation in response to regulatory agencies as needed. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Demands:

The work is essentially sedentary but involves frequent walking, bending, climbing, stooping and kneeling to perform inspections, detect leaks, sample, conduct field investigations or respond to spills. There is some lifting and exertion associated with resource recovery collections and turn ins. Work Environment:

Some exposure to inclement weather or movement over uneven terrain will occur. Part of the work is performed in an office setting. The work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, training and use of personal protective equipment. The employee follows all prudent and prescribed safety practices in performing the work.

Pay Range

$55,204.00 - $71,764.00
