Job Summary

Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist responsible for implementation of the environmental program and understanding of environmental laws sufficient to understand regulatory basis of program requirements. Employee will require the responsibility to adapt or improvise procedures to accommodate unusual or one-of-a-kind situations.

Major Duties

  • Develop and prepare environmental publications, programs of instruction, extension training materials, lesson plans, course administrative data, and course management plans, based on technical expertise and knowledge of environmental law.
  • Provide training related to environmental awareness, liability, and compliance issues, requirements or law.
  • Expresses information, ideas or facts to individuals/groups effectively by making clear and convincing oral presentations.
  • Listen to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Implement and coordinate site inspections.
  • Perform technical review of findings verifying compliance with environmental regulations, suggesting remedial actions.
  • Coordinate staff actions relating to environmental matters from higher headquarters (to include Compliance, Natural and Cultural Resources, and Pollution Prevention) and ensures that actions are taken in compliance with prescribed standards.

US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) gather current regulatory information and develop lesson plans to conduct environmental training; 2) conduct environmental site inspections and respond to allegations of pollution and disturbance; 3) prepare environmental inspection reports; 4) recognize environmental problems and select solutions; 5) coordinate staff actions that relate to environmental matters. . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Pay Range

$52,905.00 - $68,777.00
