Job Summary
This position, located within the Montana VA Healthcare System, Fort Harrison, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing air emissions, hazardous materials, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, oil spills, water quality, and the storage of regulated substances (e.g. petroleum products, chemicals, and wastes), among other areas, and works to alleviate the adverse impacts of human activities on the environment.
Major Duties
- Administers the Green Environmental Management System (GEMS) program;
- Completes permits and leads facility self-assessments, inspections, and other environmental investigations;
- Advises senior management on status of environmental programs and recommends changes in the design of facility work programs to meet new environmental requirements;
- Schedules and leads environmental audits to identify and evaluate program implementation and compliance activities;
- Trains and provides instruction on a variety of subjects related to specific and specialized environmental topics;
- Conducts site inspections, collects data, review documents, analyzes evidence, evaluates results, writes reports and recommends corrective action or procedures for compliance; and,
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must meet at least one of the following: EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: planning, implementing, and evaluating environmental protection programs; administering a green environmental management program; leading environmental facility inspections to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; advising management on environmental program status; preparing reports; and training others on specific environmental topics. -OR-
EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. -OR-

Pay Range
$62,236.00 - $80,912.00
