Job Summary

You will be a technical specialist in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act; and other environmental laws, regulations and policies including: Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Environmental Justice, Public Involvement, Planning and Environmental Linkages and Tribal Consultation. Technical assistance, training and technology deployment is independently delivered at the Federal State, regional and local levels

Major Duties

As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:

  • Plan and lead NEPA and other environmental program area implementation efforts to advance FHWA's program.
  • Lead or participate in teams charged with exploration of issues, problem resolution, and implementation efforts.
  • Develop national and project-level procedures and standards, which facilitates accomplishment of the program and technical assistance role of the Resource Center.
  • Provide technical advice, assistance and training on environmental project and program matters to FHWA Division Office and Resource Center personnel and officials of state, local and regional agencies over a multi-state geographical area.
  • Troubleshoot implementation problems with both internal and external officials. Identify and pursue new partnerships, marketing approaches, and customer participation.
  • Provide coordination and liaison to officials within a broad range of governmental agencies at the local, state, and regional level; officials of non-profit organizations, professional associations, public interest groups; representatives of educational institutions, private industry, etc; and the general public.

The ideal candidate for this position is an intermediate-level Environmental Protection Specialist. Qualifications

TO QUALIFY FOR THE GS-13, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include: Experience providing training, technical assistance and technology deployment in the area of NEPA, project development and related environmental requirements including the natural, social and cultural environments for the transportation community. For all types of consideration, experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$91,231.00 - $144,676.00
