These positions are part of the Unified Interior Region 10, Legacy USFWS Region 8-Fish and Aquatic Conservation Program. As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist, you will be responsible for coordinating program management for one of three different programs.
Major Duties
As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist, you will be responsible for coordinating program management for the Central Valley Project Improvement Act Implementation Program (CVPIA), the San Joaquin River Restoration Program (SJRRP) or the Regional Aquatic Invasive Species Program (AIS).
The emphasis will be on the management, conservation and restoration of terrestrial and aquatic organisms and ecosystems. The primary duties of the position are to coordinate program management and general staff involvement from multiple Service offices, coordinate science-based prioritization and evaluation of Program activities, work with various partners from other Federal, State, local and non-profit entities with vested and diverse interests in the successful implementation of the Program, serve as the Service's lead science and/or management representative within CVPIA, SJRRP or AIS and assist Regional FAC Senior Leadership in successfully managing staff and Program resources within the Service's CVPIA, SJRRP and AIS organizational structures. Additionally, these positions provide policy guidance, technical advice and ensure coordination of fisheries and water management operations with associated programs and activities throughout California's Central Valley (CVPIA and SJRRP), or the majority of California, Nevada and the Klamath River Watershed (AIS). These positions provides key managerial, scientific, and technical support to the FAC Central Valley Supervisor, FAC Fish Program Supervisor and FAC Assistant Regional Director on policy and procedural matters associated with the fisheries, habitat conservation, and ecological services programs in the Region. In coordination with FAC Senior Leadership, the positions develop and implement Regional FAC policies, operating plans, evaluation methods, and administrative procedures within the CVPIA, SJRRP or AIS Program and ensures Program activities are consistent with other Service activities within the Region.
Major Duties include:
- Implement and oversee program and Regional Office projects and assignments.
- Review and prepare briefing papers, correspondence, policy and procedural guidance, and program documents.
- Provide advice, policy interpretation, and guidance to field staff, management, and the Regional Office; serve as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies, private entities, environmental and conservation groups, and the public.
- Develop and implement measures to increase program efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by the close date will be considered. Basic Education Requirements: Applicants must meet A or B below:
A. Successful completion of all requirements for a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to fish and wildlife biology.
OR
B. An appropriate combination of education and experience. Education must include successful completion of course work equivalent to a major (at least 24 semesters or school equivalent) in an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to fish and wildlife biology; PLUS experience directly related to the position being filled and/or additional related education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must demonstrate that the you possess the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position to be filled and equal 100% of the requirement when combined. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement above, applicants must meet the following:
I have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level (or higher) in Federal service successfully performing the following duties: Developing wildlife biology, ecology, and/or habitat management procedures and policies to be implemented and conducted in field station operations; Reviewing and ensuring effectiveness of natural resource agency/organization management programs, i.e., public use, law enforcement, facilities and administration; AND Reviewing wildlife management and conservation plans to ensure management and biological soundness. Pay Range
$99,429.00 - $129,261.00
