Job Summary
In this position areas of geography, surveying, geodesy, photogrammetry to accomplish surveying, mapping and GIS tasks for the Albuquerque district in Albuquerque NM. New Mexico is also known as the land of enchantment and Albuquerque is home to the international balloon fiesta which is the most photographed event in the world.
Major Duties
- Plans, coordinates and develops digital spatial data and mapping (raster and vector) products.
- Determines and explains interrelationships that exist between various development concepts.
- Develops layouts for graphic display of distributional planning elements.
- Serves as a technical point-of-contact for the development and implementation of District GIS and/or Geospatial Data implementation plans.
- Plans, coordinates and implements GIS projects using new GIS and engineering technologies.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Geographer: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Min Quals GS-05: You have completed of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. Specialized experience/Min Quals GS-07: Performing hydrographic, topographic and/or boundary land surveying upon request from higher level specialists and with assistance and guidance as needed.
OR
You have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts to your application package under the document type Transcripts).
OR
You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have less than one year of graduate education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) You have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. (Candidates with graduate education in Civil Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering with a focus on environmental engineering related issues can also meet this requirement. You must submit copies of your transcripts if using education to qualify.) Specialized Experience GS-11: Assisting with the development of digital GIS databases regarding hydrographic, topographic and/or boundary land surveying.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Geography or Civil Engineering.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
