What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $53,470 (Step 01) to $69,512 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.
Major Duties
As a Geographer within the Western Geographic Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Analyzes remotely sensed, geographic, and biologic data using several image processing and Geographic information Systems.
-Utilizes statistical analysis packages in conjunction with GIS and results of previous studies to synthesize and interpret land use change and its economic and ecological impacts over time.
-Conducts geographic analyses of land use and other human-induced land patterns over time and relates them to environmental and socio-economic conditions.
-Writes reports and publications.
Qualifications
For information on basic qualifications, which includes information on whether you may substitute education for specialized experience, please click on the following: https://www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/geographer-gs-0150.Inaddition to the basic education requirements, if you are qualifying based onspecialized experience you must have one year of appropriate professional experience in geography that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience could include compiling and evaluating basic geographical facts from a variety of specified sources, ascertaining discrepancies in data, and presenting geographical information from specified maps, charts, and other source materials in the most useful format. This level of work would have involved following established procedures or detailed instructions and would have required a familiarity with a variety of basic geographic tools and sources.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
