Major Duties
As a Geospatial Ecologist/Geographer/Ecologist Specialist for the Division of Resource Services, you will perform the following duties:
- Serve as primary operational support position for geospatial and data management activities for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), interagency wildland fire, fuels management, and sagebrush biome program activities.
- Coordinate with the Bureau of Land Management National Offices, analyze, recommend, develop, and implement geospatial data management, applications and models in support of the bureau's mission critical business activities and special initiatives
- Implement, review, and recommend changes to national program policies, standards, methods, controls, and procedures in consultation and direction from program leads.
- Initiate, formulate, plan, and execute a variety of geospatial assessments and projects that analyze and model natural and human-induced processes and biological and physical components of ecosystems at a variety of temporal and spatial scales and incorporate into everyday Bureau of Land Management decision-making.
- Analyze and evaluate current geospatial practices and future needs at the state, regional and national levels and recommend appropriate resource management strategies to address those needs.
- Resolve novel, obscure, and/or highly controversial problems affecting geospatial modeling, analysis, applications, and technology in support of the national programs.
- Represent the Bureau at management and professional conferences and other events for the purpose of exchanging information, presenting technical and policy information, and advancing advocacy for public lands stewardship.
- May oversee contracts and/or serve as a contracting officer representative (COR) and facilitate interdisciplinary work groups.
- Ensure that geospatial program activities are consistent with national policies and priorities, as well as any applicable laws or regulations.

In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess oneyear of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: experience in applying a wide range of Geospatial Ecologist theories, principles, concepts, practices, standards; provide geospatial data, knowledge in applications and tools for the bureau as a consultant, advisor and lead; experience in coordinating a variety of projects, facilitate cooperation; foster commitment and team spirit; working with others to achieve and accomplish project goals; experience applying geospatial principals/technologies for fire-related business applications. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range
$96,856.00 - $125,910.00
