Job Summary
Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April - October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: late March/early April 2020.
Major Duties
As a temporary Hydrologic Technician, you will:
- Safely wade streams to collect and process water quality samples.
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Perform aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling.
- Perform wetland delineation assessments.
- Maintain data logger stations.
- Conduct lab analyses.
- Perform data entry and database management.
- Conduct fieldwork in inclement weather.
- Hike up to four miles in steep terrain at elevations ranging from 5,000 -9,000 ft.
- Operate motorboats.
- Work in a team setting.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/16/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount o qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Qualifying specialized experience is: participating in routine water quality sampling; making routine stream discharge measurements; and checking computations of hydrologic measurements. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with either: (a) major study in an appropriate field of science (i.e., watershed science, geology, chemistry, physics, geophysics, biology, ecology, math, soils, forestry, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical science, atmospheric science), engineering, construction, or industrial technology or (b) at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics. You must include transcripts.

Equivalent combination of undergraduate level education and professional experience. You must have successfully completed over 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours of undergraduate education, which included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics AND specialized experience, as described above. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$16.73 - $21.75
