This position supports the Southern Research Station in Otto, North Carolina and is located in a Forest Research unit which performs duties in support of the Forest Watershed Science Program. Major Duties
- Performs hydrologic technician work supporting professionals in the studies of surface water, meteorology, sediment and debris production, and water quality for water resource and land management planning and design.
- Installs and maintains the unit?s hydrologic instrumentation; repairs, calibrates, and services gages and recorders; and performs all equipment maintenance.
- Assists with planning necessary for modification of existing data collection stations or installation of new stations to augment or improve existing instrumentation.
- Prepares precipitation, sedimentation, and reservoir operation reports.
- Prepares correspondence for or transmittal of hydrologic data.
- Exchanges data and coordinate stream gaging and rainfall data collection with Federal, State and local agencies.
- Compiles and analyzes hydrologic data for use in studies or reports.
- Provides data to various research entities and outside agencies.
- Develops area-capacity, curves and compiles capacity tablet from surveys.
- Plots and revises discharge rating curves from discharge measurements.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-7 level, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in federal service. To qualify, your resume must reflect 3 out of 5 of the following:
--Modify hydrologic data collection stations or install new stations to augment or improve existing instrumentation.
--Prepare precipitation, and reservoir operation reports.
--Modify and/or repair parts on a variety of hydrologic gauges, instruments and other equipment.
--Repair, calibrate, and service gages and recorders.
--Install and maintain the unit's hydrologic instrumentation; repairs, calibrates, and services gages and recorders. Note: Hydrologic instrumentation may include measurement devices related to stream flow, stream water quality, groundwater, soil moisture, precipitation and meteorology climate. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$43,251.00 - $43,251.00
