Job Summary

Serves as a Senior RPEDS Environmental Specialist and Expert for the New Orleans, Vicksburg, and Memphis district of USACE. Provides advice to RPEDS, Division Chief and other staff in area of expertise on the most complicated, local, regional, and nationally significant civil works projects.

Major Duties

  • Reviews environmental methodologies and results of environmental studies on the most complicated, regionally and nationally significant civil works projects.
  • As the RPEDS Senior Environmental Specialist serves as the environmental expert for civil works projects as directed by the Division Chief.
  • Accomplishes technically challenging environmental analysis of water resources projects. Provides advice and guidance to key staff within the RPEDS.
  • Serves the Division and Branch Chiefs and assists the environmental team by coaching, facilitating, and communicating team objectives, mission, goals, problems to be solved, etc...

General Physical Science, GS-1301 series SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

GS 13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level which includes experience: 1). Selecting and developing ecosystem and environmental models as necessary to determine project impact. AND; 2) conducting original biological field surveys to determine the extent and degree of potential environmental effects AND: 3) making decisions consistent with broad environmental policy guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Environmental PlanningLeadershipTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Time-In-Grade requirement must be met no later than 30 days after the closing date of this announcement. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) Position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade GS-12(or equivalent). With regards to time-in-grade validation, if you held a position other than a GS pay plan, be sure your resume includes the pay plan and the salary you earned during the assignment. Without this information, your time-in-grade validation may not be able to be verified and will result in your not meeting the time-grade requirement for this vacancy.
