Major Duties
The person selected for this position will serve as the Associate Regional Director for Natural Resources Stewardship and Science (ARD-NRSS) and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Natural Resources Stewardship and Science Division providing leadership and direction to the strategic planning, management, and operation of the division's functions and activities. Duties include:
- Supervises division staff assigned to the regional office.
- Ensures overall program management and operational responsibilities assigned by senior management are carried out in coordination with the Regional Resources Stewardship Advisory Team, Zone leadership, superintendents and parks managers for the natural resources needs of the Region.
- Serves as Senior Science Advisor to the regional directorate leadership and parks.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates a complex program of natural resource management and research in disciplines such as ecology, geology, hydrology, marine ecology, integrated pest management, pesticides management, environmental restoration, resource monitoring, data management, and GIS.
- Coordinate or advise on complex environmental issues such as landscape-level issues, fragmentation, invasive species, climate change and its effects on park resources.
- Participates in special assignments, problem solving, meetings, workgroups, assessments and other activities that help further the vision, goals and direction of the region's natural resources program. Some travel may be required.
- Coordinates current program emphasis on bison management, renewable and non-renewable energy development threats, other wildlife and Threatened and Endangered species issues (Blackfooted ferrets, lynx, wolves and moose, white nose syndrome in bats, etc.), air and water quality.

Minimum
qualifications: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is: Planning, development, coordination and execution of programs of natural resource stewardship and management or applied research. Provides advice and Consultation to parks on resource management and stewardship issues. from a land management agency perspective. Serves on or oversees appropriate service-wide technical work groups and committees addressing complex or controversial issues. Coordinate and advise on complex environmental issues such as climate change and its effects on park resources, water and air resources, overabundant wildlife issues, species conservation, invasive species (plant and animal) management and works at a landscape level perspective as appropriate. Develop and maintain external partnerships relative to natural resource management and/or science geared to protection of natural resources on park lands and waters. Manage a Regional or National Resource Management and Stewardship support program to the Regional Directorate, parks and the Administration level of the organization. Provides law and policy advice. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
Pay Range
$123,512.00 - $160,563.00
