Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD). The primary purpose of this position is to manage CWMD research and development or test and evaluation programs as they relate to countering weapons of mass destruction. This announcement will be open for 5 business days OR until the first 100 applications have been received, whichever happens first.

Major Duties

  • Serves as technical authority in biological or physical science areas of personal expertise which often is a major concern of agency, or as a team leader.
  • Researches multi-phase biological or physical science problems of considerable scope and complexity, either alone or as a principal researcher of a group effort.
  • Develops, revises, and writes technical portions of agency guidelines that may affect other agencies or industries.
  • Provides support and advice to the CWMD leadership concerning concepts, technologies, requirements and systems within area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirement for at least one of the series listed below. Basic Requirement for GS-0401, Biological Scientist: You must meet one of the items listed below (A or B):

A. Possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Must provide transcripts)

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in response A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must submit transcript.) OR Basic Requirement for the GS-1301, Physical Scientist: You must meet one of the items listed below (A or B):

A. Possess a Bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (Must provide transcripts)

B. Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in response A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must submit transcript.) AND Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-13 position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that included: 1) Evaluating research and development programs relating to national security efforts in countering weapons of mass destruction; 2) Communicating orally and in writing to negotiate with organizations for research and development and develop written reports; 3) maintaining work relationships among stakeholders within and outside the Department to gain their support for program planning and coordination activities pertaining to countering weapons of mass destruction. NOTE: This experience must be clearly described in your resume or shown in written products submitted with your resume. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. Pay Range

$102,663.00 - $133,465.00
