The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's role is to oversee various aspects of the energy industry, including transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil. We also analyze proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines and license hydropower projects. To help support the modernization of the electric system here in the U.S., we are focusing on issues associated with a smarter grid.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position as an Interdisciplinary Engineer within the Division of Hydropower Licensing in the Office of Energy Projects. The position is located in the Washington, DC Office. To learn more about the Commission, please visit www.ferc.gov.

Major Duties include:

  • Review license applications and accompanying exhibits for existing and proposed hydropower projects to obtain a complete understanding of the project from an engineering, economic and environmental standpoint. Analyze information related to project features and operation, river hydrology, hydraulic modeling, erosion and sediment transport, geology and soils, construction practices, and engineering economics, as they relate to the construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of hydropower projects.
  • Serve as project coordinator of multidisciplinary teams assigned to prepare staff environmental documents and license orders.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of meetings on matters related to project features and operation, river hydrology, hydraulic modeling, erosion and sediment transport, geology and soils, construction practices, and engineering economics with attorneys, engineers, hydrologists, and biologists from licensees, applicants for license, and local, state, and federal agencies.

Qualifications

GS-11: At least one year of experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent experience preparing documents that assess civil and/or environmental engineering related issues or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

GS-12: At least one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent experience preparing documents that assess moderately complex civil and/or environmental engineering issues related to existing or proposed infrastructure projects.

GS-13: At least one year of experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent experience preparing documents that assess complex civil and/or environmental engineering issues related to existing or proposed infrastructure projects.

Pay Range

$69,581.00 - $128,920.00
