Job Summary

This position is with the National Park Service, organizationally located in the Washington Support Office (WASO), Fire Management Program Center (FPMC), Division of Fire and Aviation, Branch of Wildland Fire at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), in Boise, Idaho. Information about the Boise area can be found atwww.boisechamber.org. Duty maybe Boise, ID or may be negotiable. Salary will be based on duty location. Major Duties

  • Manages interagency data in the enterprise GIS database and database management systems.
  • Augments the GIS database by digitizing mapped information, importing existing digital data, and converting data.
  • Ensure that interagency data standards are met.
  • Conduct analysis of geo-referenced data to determine resources conditions and trends.
  • Ensures that appropriate application of geographic concepts and principles are applied to analyses.
  • Manages and integrates a variety of GIS and database management software and hardware, and when necessary, modifies or adapts standard software, hardware, and techniques, or methods to meet program needs.
  • Participates in professional meetings, workshops, conferences, and symposia.
  • Makes presentations at meetings.
  • Trains and instructs others in the use of GIS applications and basic GIS, GPS, and related technology.
  • Develops GIS plans, presentations, articles, written reports, and high quality digital and hardcopy products.

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Geographer GS-0150 Basic QualificationsA) Degree:geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. -OR-

B)Combination of education and experience:courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Biologist GS-0401 Basic QualificationsA)Degree:biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR-

B)Combination of education and experience:Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Physical Scientist GS-1301 Basic QualificationsA) Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR-

B)Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Cartographer GS-1370 Basic Qualifications A)Degree: cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).-OR-

B) Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education of the position to be found qualified. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, one year of creditable specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level is required.Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: designing, developing and managing a GIS database; maintaining and operating a variety of GIS and GPS units, network and operating systems; coordinating the acquisition and management of GIS data with other agencies; planning, executing and supervising field work to generate new or verify mapped information, or other experience related to this position. You must include the month and year and hours per week worked. -OR- Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degreeorPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. -OR-Combination of Graduate Education and Professional Experience:Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.

Pay Range

$62,236.00 - $80,912.00
