Job Summary

You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER in the HYDROGRAPHIC BRANCH, NAVIGATION SUPPORT DIVISION of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Major Duties

  • You will organize and manage teams to develop technical improvements for Survey Data and Navigation Surface Production.
  • You will serve as technical lead and assists others on the quality collection of survey Bathy/Hydro data. Troubleshoots various issues affecting the quality of geophysical survey data.
  • You will provide oversight for innovation within the Department from planning, collection, validation, and production source bathymetric and hydrographic data.
  • You will test hydrographic and bathymetric software such as those used in planning surveys, collection, and QA of survey data, automated validation, and production of Safety of Navigation products from source data.
  • You will serve as the Senior NAVOCEANO Representative (SNR) aboard bathymetric and/or hydrographic surveys.
  • You will write, manages, maintains, and distributes NP4 survey documentation to T-AGS vessels
  • You will attend meetings as the technical lead to guide software/hardware development and procurement efforts to meet Department requirements.
  • You will generate technical briefs and provides recommendations to management regarding new technical advancements.
  • You will represent NP43 and participates in bathymetric and/or hydrographic technical working groups inside and outside of NAVOCEANO.
  • You will monitor a shared email account for incoming RFSs. Assigns requests to appropriate personnel within NP431 and NP4.
  • You will determine appropriate products, establish due dates, and garner agreement on product characteristics.
  • You will assume the duties of Branch head during times of absence due to TDY or other reasons. Certifies time and leave in SLDCADA.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying theories, principles, and techniques of science fields such as cartography, physics, geology, geodesy, bathymetry, oceanography, and hydrography. Experience evaluating and applying the latest developments in hydrography, bathymetry, cartography, geodesy, bathymetry, oceanography, statistical analysis, and computer technology for the collection and processing of bathymetric and hydrographic data and for the production of Safety of Navigation (SoN) products. Experience and knowledge of NAVOCEANO survey operations and the methods and techniques used to collect and process hydrographic and bathymetric data. Experience using automated data processing techniques and data basing facilities at NAVOCEANO including the Data Warehouse Navigation Surface Data Base (NSDB), and the Digital Bathymetric Data Base (DBDB) Experience developing in new technologies such as navigational surfaces, digital cartography, remotely sensed geospatial data, geographic information systems software, geospatial data standards, and digital data dissemination. Pay Range

$91,231.00 - $118,603.00
