Job Summary

You will serve as a Physical Scientist/Oceanographer/ Geophysicist in the Hydrographic Mission Readiness Branch, Survey Support Division, Hydrographics Department, naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Major Duties

  • You will analyze and interpret the geophysical data derived from various sources.
  • You analyze survey teams, project management teams, work groups, or other teams involved in oceanographic data collection programs.
  • You collect data and information during field operations supporting division objectives.
  • You will resolve technical difficulties requiring professional scientific judgement.
  • You will provide technical advice and assistance on subjects involving bathymetric navigation to other office components and government agencies.
  • You will evaluate scientific information and prepare written opinions and conclusions.
  • You will Perform quality control (QC) at various stages in a scientific production process.
  • You will ensure scientific processes, procedures, and software are properly documented, configuration managed, and relevant.
  • You will evaluate scientific information and prepare formal written opinions and conclusions.
  • You will give formal presentations to senior staff level visitors and at Dept. of Defense or national meetings or conferences.
  • You will present at meetings the technical viewpoints, policies, and position of the agency.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experienced in conducting informal briefs/debriefs and briefs for visiting officials and technical groups; Experience with development of survey products by analyzing, processing, compiling and integrating geophysical/geotechnical, hydrographic, bathymetric, acoustic, ocean currents and other oceanographic environmental data to specified products; Experience leading oceanographic surveys and familiarity with procedures and the use of survey equipment used in environmental data collection; Experienced with interpreting survey plans, concept of operations, and operational specifications for ship surveys. Pay Range

$88,704.00 - $115,313.00
