Job Summary

This position is in Region 8, Land, Chemicals and Redevelopment Division, Chemical Safety and Environmental Stewardship Branch. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About Region 8: Region 8

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Reviews applications seeking approval to treat, store, or dispose of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) or hazardous waste and provides technical assistance for the Region 8 PCB program.
  • Provides technical assistance to ensure that the design, integrity, and operation of waste management facilities conform to EPA's technical and regulatory standards. The incumbent actively participates in the administrative processing of approval applications and works with higher graded employees to prepare regulatory decisions in the form of EPA-issued approvals and approval modifications.
  • Attends conferences for regulatory agencies, community meetings, public hearings, symposia for professionals, and trade association conventions to deliver presentations and to represent the EPA.
  • Reviews and comments and provides technical advice for solving permitting issues.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined asassisting senior staff with the review of permits and prepare approvals; review regulations to provide technical expertise and approval on clean-up and disposal activities. Works closely with senior staff to resolve permit requirements - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below.To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as reviewing permits and prepares approvals; provides technical expertise and approval on clean-up and disposal activities. Reviews regulatory requirements and makes recommendations to resolves technical and permit requirements, seeking input from senior staff when appropriate - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below.Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of environmental principles and safe waste management practices.

Familiarity with the risks and threats posed when PCB waste is inadvertently or intentionally released to the environment.

Ability to develop, implement and manage projects.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply federal regulations and provide technical assistance to the regulated community.

Pay Range

$56,167.00 - $88,348.00
