Job Summary

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Western Region Headquarters (WRH), Systems and Facilities Division (SFD) with one vacancy in Salt Lake City, UT.

Major Duties

As a Meteorological Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as Program Manager for the assigned Cooperative Weather Observer and Upper-Air Programs, responsible for developing short and long-term research project plans and budgets for equipment maintenance, modernization, and program re-alignment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in the Upper Air Radiosonde Receiving System and Weather Observation and measurement equipment.
  • Report observational and operational findings, results, and recommendations in briefings, technical reports, and presentations to the Area Manager, the Chief of the Division and Regional Director of the office and provide technical leadership on complex and controversial issues.

The duties described are at the full performance level of the GS-12 grade; the duties at the GS-09, GS-10, and GS-11 are developmental leading to the GS-12 level.

Qualifications

This handbook is available on the Office of Personnel Management's website located at: https://www.opm.gov/policy.EDUCATION:There is no positive education requirement for this position.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify at the GS-09 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Assisting with the maintenance of scientific or technical equipment or instrumentation. To qualify at the GS-10 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Maintaining scientific or technical equipment and instrumentation; and

Assisting with technical programs or projects. To qualify at the GS-11 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks)of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Maintaining scientific equipment and instrumentation;

Coordinating technical programs or projects. To qualify at the GS-12 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Maintaining weather observation equipment and instrumentation; and

Coordinating a weather observations program or projects.

Pay Range

$51,440.00 - $96,978.00
