Job Summary

This position is located in the Partnership Wild and Scenic Rivers Branch of the Conservation and Recreation Assistance Division.

Major Duties

As a Natural Resource Specialist, GS-0401-09, with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist senior program staff with technical and planning support for resource management, recreation and public education.
  • Analyze resource data and prepares reports gathering information relevant to individual river management plans.
  • Provide assistance to the River Management Councils for public education programs.
  • Develop and shares outreach materials, such as newsletters and electronic media with a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Assist the Branch Chief and senior program staff to manage varied cooperative agreements and contracts necessary to complete Wild and Scenic program components.
  • Collaborate on community based planning and conservation projects as part of a team with other NPS staff, RTCA (Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance) program or other projects related to the Wild and Scenic River program.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Natural Resource Specialist, GS-0401-09 position, you must meet the basic education requirement of a Bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience. Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic education requirements, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level working with organizations, state and local government agencies, volunteers and local communities to implement river conservation and recreation programs which includes: water resource management; land use planning; natural, cultural and recreational resource assessments; development of alternative resource management strategies; river conservation issues; assisting in the preparation of professionally acceptable planning and/or compliance documents. OR Master's degree OR equivalent Graduate degree OR two full years of graduate level education leading to a Master's degree with a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as: natural resource conservation, biology, fisheries, wildlife management, forestry, water resource management. OR A combination of education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position as described above.
