Job Summary

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Midwest Regional Office or the Great Lakes Agency in Ashland, Wisconsin and Bloomington, Minnesota. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Major Duties

  • Serves as program manager and natural resource specialist for the Region's government-to-government consultation with tribal governments for their participation in the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Program.
  • Coordinates the prioritizing and selecting tribal proposals for GLRI funding; establishes policies and guidelines for ranking tribal projects proposals.
  • Assists tribes in obtaining GLRI resources to address tribal outcome-oriented performance goals and measures to target significant problems impacting tribal natural trust resources.
  • Provides GLRI program administration, including program planning, budgeting, organizing, quality assurance, accountability reporting, implementing, collaboration and controlling functions.
  • Participates in broad collaboration with other entities as the BIA representative on the Great Lakes Regional Working Group.

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience-Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following: GS-12: I have at least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is work that involves planning, assessing and implementing the natural resource and environment protection programs; formulate projects for natural resources; coordination of natural resource research, monitoring, and restoration; plan, organize, monitor and conduct environmental assessments and investigations, as required by NEPA and determine the environmental impacts. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $107,234.00
