Job Summary
THIS POSITION IS BEING ADVERTISED THROUGH THE DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY (DHA) FOR CERTAIN COMPETITIVE SERVICE POSITIONS *The position will be filled at the GS-11 grade level only. *This position is primarily located in the Cape Cod Canal field office of the Operations Division for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District in Buzzards Bay, MA.
Major Duties
- Serve as Senior Natural Resource Specialist and technical advisor to the Park Manager on the Recreation Management, Natural Resources Management, and Visitor Assistance Programs.
- Duties are located at the Cape Cod Canal, and at the New Bedford MA and Fox Point RI Hurricane Protection Projects.
- Participate with the Park Manager in the effective direction, control and operation of program activities.
- Perform a variety of administrative and technical support assignments to assist the Park Manager fulfill his/her functional responsibilities.
- Apply a comprehensive knowledge of recreation, natural resources and visitor assistance policies, practices and procedures to provide management advisory services to the Park Manager.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Park Ranger/Natural Resource Specialist staff, operating officials and other government agencies and private sector individuals.
- Serve as the Projects primary point of contact with members of Federal, state, and local government agencies and public/private sector groups on recreation, natural resources, and visitor assistance issues.
- Coordinate work projects of difficult scope and complexity often with high community and private interest. Exercises extensive decision-making authority.
- Participate with the Park Manager in the various budget planning, formulation and execution phases of the three programs: (1) Recreation Management, (2) Natural Resources Management, and (3) Visitor Assistance.
- Act with full authority over the Resource Management Section in the Park Manager's absence or unavailability.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for the Biological Sciences 0401 Series: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience Requirements: GS-11
One year of specialized experience which includes meeting all of the following: 1) Monitor budgets and/or administer service contracts for a natural resource program; 2) Implement a Recreation Management, Natural Resources Management, and/or Visitor Assistance Program; and 3) coordinate with stakeholders such as; state, federal, or local agencies in the development of cooperative plans for rescue, emergency, and/or law enforcement service. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09) or equivalent level.
Pay Range
$71,274.00 - $92,655.00
