Job Summary
This position is located at the Shasta-Trinity National Forest at the McCloud Ranger District. The incumbent serves as a natural resources specialist with responsibility for assisting in developing, implementing, and administering a broad-based natural resources program for the unit. Major Duties
- Gather and analyze information for geographic information systems.
- Compile and analyze biological data for studies and investigations.
- Participate in the drafting of annual work for a carrying out natural resources management decisions.
- Monitor damage control efforts for compliance with established natural resource program policies and procedure.
- Assist in planning various natural resources and environmental protection programs to ensure consideration is given to resource conversation and protection measures.
- Conduct short term studies using conventional fact-finding and evaluation techniques for developing baseline information on birds, fish and small animals and their habitat, growth limits and feeding requirements.

GS-0401: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as of the following: Assisted with the planning and implementation of restoration project; Assisted with developing areas for additional restoration project; Gathered and analyzed information for geographic information systems (GIS); Assisted in portions of projects which included collecting field data on native plants, noxious weeds treatments, wildlife, hydrology and Knudson-Vandenberg (KV) plans for preparation of land management plans.

1 full year of graduate-level education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Specialized experience is defined as of the following: Performed specific portions or minor phases of restoration assignments in support of senior natural resource specialists; Collected resource data and conducted sampling for studies, reporting data observations and providing recommendations to supervisor; Researched existing policies and regulations to provide technical assistance relative to policy on natural resource management; Provided input and used natural resources data generated by geographic information systems (GIS) to prepare reports.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Pay Range
$43,251.00 - $68,777.00
