Job Summary
This position is located in the Division of Environmental Protection (DEP), Waste Resource and Recovery Branch (WRRB). The WRRB is responsible for the waste management program at NIH, providing professional and technical support in the collection, transport, treatment, recycling and disposal of the hazardous and non-hazardous chemical, medical pathological, general and solid and mixed wastes. MajorDuties
As a Physical Scientist, you will:
- Assist with the conducting of regulatory engineering or scientific reviews and inspections of NIH operations and construction sites.
- Provide technical engineering and scientific advice to lay audiences.
- Assist with the managing, administering, and coordination of environmental engineering programs or projects to achieve and maintain environmental compliance of ongoing operations.
- Research new regulations and identify NIH's responsibilities and liabilities and review current regulations to ensure NIH is in compliance with them.
- Maintain records, including monthly withdrawal totals, analyze data to look for problems, and complete reports for various compliance areas.
Qualifications
To qualify for a Physical Scientist, GS-1301-09, you must have: A) A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR B) A combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the basic qualifications above, to qualify for a Physical Scientist at the GS-09 level, you must: A) Have completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related; OR B) have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: gathering scientific and environmental data for use in environmental engineering programs; assisting in the administration of environmental engineering programs; assisting senior environmental engineers or scientists in analyzing environmental data; participating in environmental compliance activities; researching environmental control laws and regulations to determine organizational compliance; OR C) have a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Pay Range
$59,534.00 - $77,396.00
