Job Summary

The Office of Chief Health and Medical Officer at NASA in Houston, TX is seeking a skilled individual to lead the agency level Institutional Review Board, lead the NASA Office of Research Assurance, and lead or maintain oversight of Human Research Multilateral Review Boards. The individual will work with multiple NASA centers, federal agencies, and international partners as well as manage budgets and associated contracts.**This announcement is only open for one (1) day.**

Major Duties

  • Chairing the NASA Institutional Review Board (IRB) which includes working with budgets, contracts, external and internal collaborators, and NASA Mission Directorates, Centers, and Programs conducting human research.
  • Lead and manage the NASA Office of Research Assurance, which involves oversight of research integrity and protection of human subjects, establishment and oversight of human research policies, and provide informational and educational materials.
  • Lead the Human Research Multilateral Review Board (HRMRB) which currently reviews all human subject International Space Station research protocols, and will be used with future NASA Programs involving international partners.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-14), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. To qualify for the GS-15:One year of specialized experience includes performing duties such as more than 5 years experience in bioethics, IRB management and regulations, conducting human research, and preferably advanced degrees in appropriate fields; possess and maintain a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) credential; working with international investigators and bioethics managers (prefer experience with Russian collaborators); leading and supervising people; and NASA research experience due to many unique aspects of research in space.

Pay Range

$142,701.00 - $170,800.00
