Job Summary

This position is located in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), Associate Director – Chief Technology Officer, Office of Technology Development (OTD), Materials and Application Division (MAD). MAD is responsible for leading the technical development and integrationof new materials and processes, andimproving product quality and production efficiency in the manufacture of US currency and other Bureau products.

Major Duties

As a Physical Scientist (Principal Project Management Specialist), you will:

-Work on cutting edge research, innovative products, applications and technology interfaces following a stage-gate Technology Development Process. Develop concepts, prepare project documentation, obtain internal and external support and approval, define needs, requirements, and success criteria.

-Develop comprehensive evaluation plans. Apply state of the art knowledge of engineering and/or physical science related principles and practices as well as current research pertaining to materials, instrumentation, and testing protocols, which have potential application to the production and security of BEP products.

-Apply knowledge of project management principles to assure that projects are successfully completed, on schedule and within established budgets.

-Lead traditional or matrix teams. Under the leadership and guidance of the incumbent, teams will recommend data driven decisions for developmental and testing problems and/or critically assess recommendations received from others.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements For the 1301,General Physical Science Series:

Individual Occupational Requirements For the Physical Scientist: Basic Requirements: A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ANDSpecialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: -Experience leading traditional and matrix teams in pursuit of program and project objectives. AND - Experience taking technologies from concept to integration in a stage-gate process. AND -Experience developing and coordinating comprehensive test plans, and subsequent analysis and interpretation of results. AND-Experience evaluating, and presenting information in a concise, articulate, persuasive, and knowledgeable fashion in both written and oral form, to technical and non-technical audiences.

Pay Range

$117,191.00 - $152,352.00
