Major Duties
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Have project management responsibilities for sediment remediation projects and habitat restoration projects may include a variety of factors. Manages a large scale sediment remediation project in consultation with the immediate supervisor. When encountering situations without guidelines the incumbent uses initiative and resourcefulness to select resources and remedies while keeping supervisor informed of progress.
- Support activities related to removal of Beneficial Use Impairments (BUIs )and delisting of Area of Concern (AOCs).
- Development of management actions, providing guidance on potential funding sources to implement the projects, and providing technical assistance.
- Coordinate with federal, state, local, and tribal entities.
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.
You will spend 25-50% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
Qualifications
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as experience in coordinating with multiple agencies and stakeholders for the development and implementation of environmental remediation and/or habitat restoration projects; experience in developing, planning and implementing environmental data collection efforts - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined asexperience in coordinating with multiple agencies and stakeholders for the development and implementation of environmental remediation and/or habitat restoration projects, experience in developing, planning and implementing environmental data collection efforts; experience in developing and implementing planning and feasibility studies, project design, and/or construction projects for environmental projects.Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of environmental science/engineering and life science concepts, principles, practices and methods to carry out assignments.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of one or more of the following (environmental or general engineering and/or the biological, geological, environmental, and/or physical sciences) to plan, coordinate, manage and oversee average sediment remedial actions and/or habitat restoration projects and related activities.
Knowledge of the latest available treatment processes and cleanup methods for contaminated sediment sites to direct field activities, with or without the aid of consultants, primary agencies, advisory agencies, or special teams in order to meet the specific needs of remedial activities.
Knowledge of management principles, practices and methods in order to plan and oversee remedial activities and habitat restoration projects.
Knowledge of applicable state and local laws, authorities and agreements governing the management of contaminated sediments.
Knowledge of applicable, relevant and appropriate laws, regulations and other guidelines governing remedial and restoration activities.
Skill in communications in order to deal with highly visible, complex community relations issues and situations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range
$70,987.00 - $110,614.00
